I was checking my screensavers in Display and see that there is an AvastSS. What is that for? Does it scan SS’s? Could I remove it from the system32? Or must I leave it there?? ???
Why do you want to remove so much things ? First you started with all those skins, and now with screensaver.
Avast! screensaver is only 90 kb in physical size and why would anyone want to remove that ? Like its’ going to take up some serious space on your HD ???
I’m sure if you keep removing things, pretty soon you’ll come back in here asking why your avast! failed to start one day.
Of course you can remove .SCR file, it’s just screensaver file, but I believe it will be reinstalled again once you receive another program update… so no point in doing that. Besides, it’s only 90 kb as I already mentioned.
No it doesn’t scan SSs (whatever that may be ??? ). avastSS stands for avast! Screen Saver
Here is answer to what it is and does.
A special screen-saver is also provided, that, when running, performs virus scanning. avast! antivirus works together with your favorite screen-saver, so you don’t have to change your personal settings to use it.
Like Sasha said, maybe it’s better learn about avast before changing its settings and files.

SZ Crafter must have gotten up on the wrong side of the bed. I am sorry if I upset you. I will try not to post anything anymore.
Be aware that not everyone on this forum is a native English speaker so that the tone apparent is not allways as intended. Please continue to use the forum and get the most out of a very good AV. Welcome
Sorry for me… and, perhaps, for Sasha.
As, as far I know him, he is not negative or rude, just trying to show us a way. No need to avoid posting anymore.
No need to be upset
I just told you exactly the same thing others told you as well… it’s just I was first. I didn’t mean anything I said to sound the way you understood it… all I was saying is, I’ve noticed you are trying to remove all kind of things without any big reason. C’mon… screensaver file is only 90 kb, and I really don’t remember anyone else asked how to remove it… simply if you don’t use it, leave it there. Once you uninstall avast!, it will go away with everything else avast! related.
Again, I don’t know where you dug that I got up on the wrong side of the bed… here we go again…
I said this:
Why do you want to remove so much things ? First you started with all those skins, and now with screensaver.
That’s true… see other threads:
http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=18089.msg153783#msg153783
then I said this:
Avast! screensaver is only 90 kb in physical size and why would anyone want to remove that ? Like its' going to take up some serious space on your HD
Which is also true… I really do not see any trace of being rude or something… maybe you do.
Another part of my reply follows:
I'm sure if you keep removing things, pretty soon you'll come back in here asking why your avast! failed to start one day.
Believe me, I am so long in here that I very well remember many similar cases. People remove some things and they have no clue what’s really their purpose, and then problems starts to pop-up. I was trying to tell you so you can avoid it in the start.
…and this one:
Of course you can remove .SCR file, it's just screensaver file, but I believe it will be reinstalled again once you receive another program update... so no point in doing that. Besides, it's only 90 kb as I already mentioned.
All I see there is my advice regarding your question. Since we are part of technical support we are allowed to give you our opinion on this matter… so I gave it to you in the beginning of my reply.
No it doesn't scan SSs (whatever that may be ). avastSS stands for avast! Screen Saver
Same here… I explained to you what avastSS stands for… nothing less, nothign more.
I am really sorry you feel the way you feel, but there is really no need not to post in these forums. No one in here wants you to feel bad. We are here to help each other and all those who are here long enough, they know how we do this… stay long enough and you will see too.
Cheers !
EDIT: By the way, how do you know which is the right side of the bed ?
If you get up cranky, it is the wrong side!!!
The reason I had asked about the skin was that I had downloaded one I did not like.
The reason I asked about the Avast SS was I did not know there was an Avast SS and I wanted to know what it did, since I do not use screen savers.
I try to keep anything out of my computer I do not use.
I deleted the one skin I didn’t like but will keep the Avast SS since it came with the program and I certainly do not want to take anything out that will screw things up. I like Avast and am very thankful for a good, free program.
I have posted on other forums with no problem and maybe what he/she said I took wrong, so I am sorry if I did. But I do think people can be pleasant. Some of you are more knowledgable and that is why us “dummies” ask questions, but I will think twice before I post anyway.
I’ve never seen a topic where Sasha was cranky toward anyone who needed help (yet ;D). If you don’t know what you’re deleting, best recommended that you don’t delete it.
You can still post in the forums if you have any more questions, no one is gonna classify you as a “dummy”.
I have no reason to get up “cranky”… life is just too beautiful to waste it on being cranky… but I have a good reason to go to bed cranky.
Again, no one even tried to classify you as a dummy, you said it yourself. Being pleasant ? By helping literally thousands of people comming into these forums and doing all that for free ? That’s what I call pleasant, and we all are trying to give our best… besides we have our real lives and millions of other responsibilities, we always find some time to help others. We do that for so long by now. That’s what I call pleasant.
I’m done in here.
don’t you just feel the love in here? ;D
lol

p.s. i read this post several times and it seems to insinuate but its not meant to, meant to be a joke
avast screen saver is, in fact, a module to scan your computer while other screensaver is running.
If I were you, I’ll take a look in this unique avast feature.
We all do that, but we do not go into extremes… I bet you never used any of those Administrative tools in Windows. Yet, no one ever though of erasing things like that. If something (some program or application you have installed on your system and you don’t use it) is 1 Mb or up, of course you can think of erasing it… but something that’s unbelievable harmless and 90kb only…
The thing is, nothing is insinuating anything in my replies. Please read my reply number #7 in this same thread, everything is well explained in there:

Hi MaDonna
Welcome to the forum.
Please try to remember that beauty is always in the eyes of the beholder.
That also holds true for the demeanor or tone of Sasha’s reply to you.
You are new to this forum. Sasha (S.Z.Craftec) has been here for a considerable lenght of time.
You therefore aren’t aware of the many, many people he has helped.
You also aren’t aware that English is not his native language although he’s working on it.
I wish that my second language skills where even close to his…
Please re-read his answer to you, keeping all these facts in mind and, I’m sure you’ll see his reply
in a totally different light.
