AVAST screen server errors

I use avast home edition for a while.
I never got any problem on several successive machines.
But:
for two days, each time avast attemps to launch the screen saver, i get this error: (translation from french)
AVASTSS.scr had a problem
do you want to send Microsoft an alert ? …

AppName: avastss.scr AppVer: 4.6.763.0 ModName: msvcr71.dll
ModVer: 7.10.3052.4 Offset: 0000feb4

And the file it would send to microsoft is attached:
My machine is 3 months old and avast is installed for 3 months.

Which screen saver is configured to be used by avast screen saver module?
If you go to Control Panel > Video
Screen Saver > Properties

Which one is listed there?

This is the problem msvcr71.dll, it just so happende that the avastss.scr was using it may be that this file is somehow corrupt.

Microsoft® C Runtime Library, v. 7.10.3052.4
http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?msvcr71 you could download this file again, but it would probably be best to check if the file is corrupt Windows Start, Run, type sfc /scannow if any file is founf to be corrupt, you will probably be asked for youe windows CD.

??

avast! antivirus

i’ll try that to morrow and i’ll let you know.

Thanks a lot to you, guys,
your product is wonderfull, and you are rapid and comprehensive too,

Welcome to the forums, let us know how you get on.

aVa, look, avast has a MODULE that scans your computer WHILE YOUR OWN SCREEN SAVER is launched.
Into avast module you can configure WHICH screen saver will be loaded… this one is what I want to know to help you…

The selected screen saver is “Stars”, i never installed others screen savers than the windows originals.
Thanks,
André

i ran sfc /scannow , it took about 1/2 hour and it did not echo me any information.

i did “update” msvcr71.dll from the link you gave me.
It does not change anything, even after i restarted my pc.

Don’t know what else to do.
Perhaps, you could tell me what other program uses this dll, just to see if it crashes that application too ?
André

No problems here with Stars… should work…

Here you can have some info: http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?msvcr71

msvcr71.dll is Microsoft® C Runtime Library, v. 7.10.3052.4

Does the crash occur immediatelly when you try to start the screensaver (you can open Display Properties and click “Preview” on the "Screen Saver tab), or does it take a few seconds of disk activity maybe?
Does the avast! screensaver window appear for a moment or not?
