If i select avast screensaver, nothing happend. I have last Avast version! It is maybe bug or not working anymore? How uninstall it?
As far as I’m aware in this latest version of avast 17.1.2286, the screensaver scan is no longer available. Though I could be wrong as I’m on my win10 laptop and I don’t have the latest avast installed on that yet.
So is there any way how safely uninstall it?
It isn’t so much installed as previously being available to use it.
There is no way to actually use it from the avastUI, you set it up using the windows display properties, so switching your windows display properties, screensaver to a different screensaver or no screensaver should be sufficient.
In display properties i have still avast for choose but not work anymore, just black screen. In my Windows folder is still avastSS.scr. So its better leave it alone or it’s safe delete this item? Maybe it’s connected with other files and registry keys. Anyway i use no screensaver, i only want clean system without junk files.
That is something retained by your OS (most likely in the registry) because it has been used before.
So no junk files as it is no longer in avast, selection of the avast screensaver from display properties, goes to the previously recorded location and finds nothing.
You could go hunting in the registry, but personally I wouldn’t recommend it, for all you would achieve (a couple of lines of information) against any potential for damage.
AvastSS.scr is still there in Windows folder, if i remove it, it also dissappear from display properties but i don’t know if this is safe solution.
I don’t know, but I rather doubt it would. I have seen lots of files that have been removed and they still have registry entries for them.
But that file is a whole 51.9 KB (53,208 bytes) in size on my system, it hardly seems worth the bother of even removing it in the days of 2TB hard drives.
It’s propably because i first upgraded trought gui and new uninstaller is not able remove this.
I rather doubt that the avastclear.exe, as far as I’m aware is backwards compatible.
I don’t know if even a clean install of the latest version probably won’t remove it either. I referred to the avastss.scr on this XP system has a creation date of 19 August 2016, 15:01:50, that is relatively recent possibly the later end of avast 2016.
So avastclear.exe should be able to handle avast 2016, but will it remove that file, I don’t know only a practical test would prove or disprove this.
I just deleted that file from Windows folder manualy. No longer apperars in display preferences and can’t cause problems if was not functional (no longer belongs Avast). I also search in registry for AvastSS and no one reference was found. I think this is best solution.
At least it will let you rest easier, me I wouldn’t have bothered, getting too laid back now I guess.
Of course 50kB file doesn’t matter, but i in display preferences is broken screensaver that is why i removed it. So i learned one thing now, never let avast update to new program version. One thing what is bad, it comes with new uninstaller, so if i will want in future remove it, it doesn’t delelete files from previous versions. And second thing is i cannot choose what modules i want install. It install all new features automaticaly. Personally i don’t trust avast safe mode unistaller called “avastclear”. It is just universal uninstaller for all versions which not come with my product so is not able delete files that good as standart uninstaller from control panel. Is good use if standart uninstaller not work of course. So for example, one day avast decide remove safezone browser from this product, you let update avast from gui and if you uninstall it safezone browser stay uninstalled. There will be no way uninstall it. Try think about it.
