I cannot remember how I triggered the Avast screensaver I have it running, but a friend who uses Avast Home wants to run it ???
go to Control Panel, Display Propertys, Screensaver tab
Choose the avast! antivirus screensaver in the dropdown box
You can click on the settings button to set it up as you wish
Yes i did that but could not find it ? is there a way of installing it into Display Properties.I remember double clicking on a file someware?
You should have a AvastSS.scr file in your windows/system32 folder
If thats not there… Im not sure why? ???
Maybe try doing a repair of Avast?
Im sure someone else here will be able to help you out if that doesnt work as Im
off on vacation here shortly… good luck though!
Thanks for your Help, have a good Holiday 8)
I see many references in help to various types of menus. For instance “Context Menu”, “Main Menu”. Where are these menus ?
Also in regards to this thread where is this “Control Panel” ?
The person who started this thread was asking (back in June) how to trigger the screen saver.
I myself cannot see how to set up scanning or VRDB generation while the screen saver is running. The help refers to a “Screen Control Panel” which will allow “screen saver settings” to be made but I have no idea where this “Screen Control Panel” is or how to launch it.
There was mention of the file “Avastss.scr” which should be in windows/system32 folder. The only things that are in that folder are two other folders named “Drivers” and “Spool” and no files at all of any kind.
Help anyone on how to access all of the “Menus” that help refers to and how to access this so called “Screen Control Panel”. :-\
Thanks in advance
In reply to my post above, there is an avastss file in the MS screensaver program. I gather that if I select this screen saver I can then access settings to customize it. Presumably part of the customization options is to set the screen saver to scan for viruses or to generate the VRDB db.
If this is true I have one question. I thought we could use any screen saver we wanted to. I prefer to use a screen saver that I have set up in my MS screen saver file which of course is not the avastss file. Is there a setting in the avastss file (avast screen saver) which allows the user to select another screen saver to use ?
Sounds a little confusing to me, I also noticed others have had problems with losing access to certain menus or files for Avast when they tried using the screen saver options, so I want to make sure that I am doing it correctly. There seems to be little reference to how all of this is done in help. ???
Basically what I want to do is to set up the Virus Scanner and the VRDB file generation to launch using MY SCREEN SAVER which is what I presumed could be done since Avast states the user can use any screen saver to do use these options.
One concern I do have with this, however, is there a risk that the screen saver could become locked up because one or both of these programs might be running ?
Thanks again in advance.
This is precesely how it works…
Into avast screen saver settings you’ll chose the ‘real’ screan saver to run.
Nothing related… you should be more specific in order to get help.
You can do that. VRDB does not depend on avast screen saver or any other.
But, do you run a scanning with the screen saver? Why do you say Virus Scanner?
The virus scanner can only run ‘while’ avast screen saver is set to be used.
No, neither avast, nor VRDB, nor the screen saver should crash with simultaneous use.
