Avast Script Shield not working with latest version of Chrome

It says the module is running but it in not scanning anything in Google Chrome. However, it works fine with Internet Explorer. I think that there is a bug between avast and the latest version of Chrome which is v18.0.1025.142. Is there any way to solve this issue? I have also tried a repair and reboot.

OS - Windows 7 64bit
Software - Avast IS and Malwarebytes Pro, Emsisoft Anti-Malware on demand.

Any way to fix/solve it?

There are several topics about this problem with Chrome v 18.0, so I would monitor those.

When you installed avast, did you happen to install it in Compatibility mode ?

What do you mean by “Compatability mode”. When I either installed it I done custom or the first one which I think is Typical install. It had been working fine with Google Chrome, though, after this recent update it hasn’t.

It is/was an option on a clean install, if you don’t know about it then I would say it highly unlikely you installed it in compatibility mode.

I don’t think I did since it was working fine before the Chrome update.

If you haven’t just installed avast and it was working with the previous version of chrome, then something must have changed in chrome v18.0 and the script shield is working with it. Hopefully whatever that is can be fixed, if that is within avast or chrome.

I don’t use chrome, so I can’t really be any practical help on that.

Yep, it was working fine before just before Chrome updated. So it’s a bug.

Yes it might well be a bug, but where is the $64,000 question. Hopefully one of the developers can check it out.

Any chance you could contact one?

Not directly as I don’t know who would be the lead developer for the script shield side. Given that there are a few topics about this I would hope that it is already been seen and looked into.

I wouldn’t really call it a bug… yes, I believe it doesn’t work because the code has been prepared before Chrome 18 came out - so, Chrome 18 is not supported yet.
It will be updated in the next build of avast! (but then again, when the next version of Chrome gets released afterwards, chances are it will be unsupported again until the next avast! update - etc.)

So… When will avast release a build or a new patch. This has also never happened before to me no matter how many times Google Chrome has updated. Maybe a patch could be placed on the forum?

Bump, when will this issue be resolved.

It’s kind of funny that avast can’t keep up with chrome’s editions and yet it’s that browser that is recommended by avast

+1

I wonder why don’t they recommend firefox in my opinion it is more secure than chrome because it offers “Do Not Track Me” Feature and as far as i know chrome doesn’t ::slight_smile:

I don’t care about the browser safety aspects such as “Do not track me”. The main thing is that the script shield should be working with Chrome and Firefox 12 so the user can stay protected.
