Avast secretly updates to latest version (17.3.2291)

Avast has updated again, secretly, without permission; I guess through the virus definitions update.
It updated to the latest version, and started hammering the cpu.
I am uninstalling avast permanently; this has been too many times.
I don’t know what to replace it with, it has been so long that I have used avast.
Also the uninstall hangs at wsc_proxy.exe (even though I didn’t have the firewall, if that is applicable.)

Default option is auto updates but you can go into the settings and change that manually. I have mine set to alert for a new update but dont download or install until I am ready to do so myself.

You can turn auto update off but you will be not safe with old software version.

Hi, thanks for the replies.
My version update setting is always set to manual.
This is a forced update from the avast server via the virus definitions.
This has happened before, and has been confirmed by an avast developer here on the boards.
PS, one of the many culprits of the latest avast, is the avast offer tool, located here, C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\Avast\setup\aswOfferTool.exe; three instances of this are hammering the cpu; but avast hammering the cpu it is not limited to these three avast offer tool exe’s, these are just the ones i noticed.
So the manual version update setting does not matter, the avast version updates without permission anyway.
Any ideas, suggestions?

Thanks.

Sometime you can discover that PC with time is no more faster with new programs also SATA Hard Disk is extremely slow compared to the SSD.
I upgraded my PC with a new and now all program are running fine so maybe sometimes is not really only an issue of a program.

Sound strange to me read that you set the program to ask your permission before update and his updating in forced mode without asking you.
Just an idea… reading your post… if your PC is slow maybe can be also the PC… and you can say without avast is more fast but also less protected

I tested different protection software deep, very deep I think and at the moment I can Confirm that Avast was the best for security considering that there is no perfect protection program.
