Recently Avast secure browser has been deleting my adblocking extensions - ublock origin, Ghostery etc. Utterly outrageous. Hw do I stop it?
It is based on Chromium, which is removing Manifest V2 extensions. Including adblockers.
Firefox still supports them as of now.
Thanks for this Rundvleeskroket - I’ve been using Avast for years but they’ve been getting worse and worse and this is the last straw. Have switched to DuckDuckGo which has it’s own adblockers for YouTube etc, but doesn’t block Spotify ads unfortunately. PS - with a tonguetwisting name like that, where are you from?

First, I’m an Avast user and not an Avast Team member. I also don’t use the ASB, I’m not a fan of Chromium based browsers Chrome, and the list is bug.
Over 70% of all desktop web traffic flows through browsers built on Google’s open-source Chromium project. From Chrome and Microsoft Edge to Brave, Opera, Vivaldi, and specialized antidetect tools, the Chromium engine has become the de facto standard for how we experience the web.
So I guess by its very name Avast Secure Browser it isn’t going to allow all add-ons.
A note on Firefox, I use uBlock Origin Lite which is soon to be history (being discontinued). I used to use the full strength uBlock Origin (which sites lessened add revenue didn’t like) switched to uBlock Origin Lite. I don’t know if you could install that add-on in ASB.
I don’t know if you could try adding the uMatrix.

Neither uBlock Origin Lite nor uMatrix is compatible with ASB.
However, on the Chrome Web Store (if you search for ‘ad blocker’), there are numerous variants that still work with ASB, such as 3P-Matrix-lite, AdBlock Unlimited, and various versions of uBlock whose names I haven’t noted down.
That said, I don’t know how good they are or whether they have ‘advanced’ settings like uBlock Origin on Firefox.
I’ve installed ‘AdBlock Unlimited’; I don’t know much about it apart from the fact that it blocks ads on the few sites I’ve visited without changing any settings.

Dammit - it’s even deleted Ghostery now and that’s not Manifest V2 - it’s V3.
