Avast! SecureLine for iOS hangs all the time

Hi guys,

The current version of Avast! SecureLine for iOS is a little disaster :frowning:
It hangs, doesn’t connect, or takes ages to connect. Reinstalling the profile doesn’t help !
I hope the upcomming version solves this ?

Hi Red,

We’ve been observing that and will be improving it.
That may happen when the server for the location you’re trying to connect is down.
It can also be a problem of traffic being controlled (I don’t think it’s the case). Did you notice that when connected to specific networks or does it always happen?

Any ways, the next version - coming up soon - won’t let you stuck on that loading screen. If you’re using iOS 8, you’ll see some improvements.

Can you tell me what locations you were trying to connect when the connection was hanging?

Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for sharing your feedback.

Kind regards,

Jobert

Hi Jobert,

Thank you for your reaction. Some additional info.

I use Avast! SecureLine on one Windows 7 laptop with no problems.

  • Network : Home 99% of the time, known and other networks 1%.
  • Server : Amsterdam.
  • Problem : Not that I notice.

Two iOS 8 iPads with problems :

  • Network : Home 80%, known networks 15%, other 5%.
  • Server : Amsterdam.
  • Problem : Typical is that the connection suddenly seems to “hang”. You can solve that by reconnecting in the iOS settings. Sometimes it immediately reconnects, sometimes it takes like 10 seconds.

And one iOS 8 iPhone :

  • Network : Home 0% ( I don’t use SecureLine here ), known and other networks 0.01% ( Which I try to avoid. When the iPhone is not on the Home network I try to use 3G/4G all the time with no SecureLine ).
  • Server : Amsterdam.
  • Problem : I don’t use it enough to experience any.

The problems started with the last app-update. In the previous version I had no problems.

Amsterdam servers seem ok for the past few days.

Can you tell me if you have 2 Avast VPN on your iOS settings?
It may happen you have “VPN Configurations” and “Personal VPN” listed there. Is this the case?

Jobert

Yes, the Amsterdam server seems to be better the last few days.

And no, I don’t have more than one Avast! VPN profiles installed. In fact I did a “clean install”, meaning : Delete the old app and VPN profile - do a “hard reboot” with the home + on/off button - download the new app and install the new VPN profile.

Btw. there was the same problem with the first ( and second ? ) version of the app.

Jobert and I have continued our conversation by email

Greetz, Red.

I just updated SecureLine on my iPad and iPhone. The iPhone connects naturally and reliably but the iPad rarely completes a connection and on those rare times that it does the connection drops after a couple of minutes. I finally uninstalled the profile, deleted the app, and rebooted the iPad. Now, without SecureLine I connect to everything fine. Both devices on the same home network. Both on iOS 8.3. What’s up with the iPad release?

Bill,

Could you please tell me what model you have? Does that happen only on that home network?
Also, do you see any kind of pattern when the connection is lost?

Thanks,

Jobert
