Avast seems to block 3d max 2011

Hi,

I was using comodo anti-virus previously but since switching to Avast I get this error everytime I load 3dmax , " The application failed to initialize properly ( 0xC0000005)" I tried allowing the whole program folder in the exceptions list too but that didn’t work so I’m not sure whats being blocked/what the problem is. When I uninstall avast it works fine again.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Prior to installing Avast, did you uninstall Comodo using the vendor’s uninstaller tool then reboot your machine?

What are you using for a firewall?

What other security software do you have on this machine now or in the past?

  • AV
  • FW
  • Trial versions
  • Security software

Thanks SafeSurf for pointing that email thing out, has it been fixed now?

Yep

What are you using for a firewall?
Zone Alarm Free , I tried just 3d max and zone alarm together and had no problems, it was only after installing Avast the trouble started.

Thanks for getting back to me so fast, the sooner this gets fixed the quicker I can get back to work

  1. There have been issues with users using ZA FW and Avast.
  2. I recommend uninstalling Avast and doing a clean install to fix your problem. Use the Avast uninstaller tool for uninstalling, and you may want to try the new beta version 5.1.884 if you are not using already.

Uninstall Avast and do a CLEAN install:

  1. Save a copy of newest version of Avast for the product you need and save it to your HDD:
    Free: http://files.avast.com/files/beta/5.1.884/setup_av_free.exe
    Pro: http://files.avast.com/files/beta/5.1.884/setup_av_pro.exe
    AIS: http://files.avast.com/files/beta/5.1.884/setup_ais.exe
  2. Download the Avast Uninstall Utility http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility and save it to your HDD (it has uninstall tools for all Avast versions and products).
  3. Disconnect from the Internet at this time.
  4. Go to Control Panel and uninstall Avast through Add/Remove Programs if possible and reboot.
  5. If Step 4 fails, boot into Safe Mode (hit F8 repeatedly) and run the Avast Uninstall Tool.
  6. Reboot.
  7. Install the newest version of Avast and reboot.
  8. Get Internet access and register your copy or add the license key for Free, Pro, or AIS.
  9. Update the Avast definitions.

If you need a different Avast set up file, let us know and we will provide it to you. Thank you.

Wow thanks so much SafeSurf that worked , thats such a relief, I feel like I owe you so much

What was I doing wrong before?

Have I managed to hide my email?

Thanks a lot I’m really glad Avast is now working

EDIT:
I’m trying to install a new program called mozy to back up my files but I get to the popup to run it but when I click Run it just closes - could this be Avast?

Guess what there is now the official release of avast 5.1.889, that you should be able to get from the avastUI by doing a manual program update, see http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=69305.0

Will this update help with my problem?

Can I update within avast or do I need to uninstall first?

Yes you can simply right click on the avast! tray icon select update and then select program.

Thanks Bob I’m updating now
