I’ve gotten notes messages from Avast that browser access is changed.
Background, I tried to use my wireless at a different location last evening and was unable to do so. It said that I was not connected to the network properly – something about DNS server unable to be found because of the firewall.
So then I started fooling around with the firewall options – which by the way, I can no longer find. I don’t know how to get back to it, and I also have no idea what setting each of them should be.
Just now the message read that Verizon (my wireless carrier) has a “low” setting for content whereas I would normally want it to be “medium”
Where are the firewall settings? What “should” they be? I look at websites with “old lady” content – clothing, email, discussion board, you tube. Nothing untoward, nor do I want anything untoward sent to me.
Would truly appreciate help. (BTW – my safe browser returned without my having to do anything but write a ticket.)
I think we need to talk basic to the OP as she seems overwhelmed.
Jill, if I understand correctly, you have a Windows 8 (or is it an 8.1?) machine and are running Avast Free.
What version of Avast are you running? Did you upgrade from a previous version of Avast or do a clean install?
Are you using the Windows 8 default firewall (the one that came with the machine)?
Is it fully updated (all the software is fully updated, Microsoft patches are updated)?
Do you have any other security programs on this machine?
I think you got the error because you were messing around with the firewall, but we need to know what firewall you are using - the one that came with your machine or a 3rd party one.
