I noticed that today when getting home my avast service is constantly using higher cpu usage than usual and above the Avast Program on the task manager there is something called AutoUpdate Implementation is this related the avast by any chance if so is there a way to fix this?
So are you saying that 1.5% CPU usage is higher than usual and as such excessive ?
The avastSvc.exe is the main avast service and controls all scanning, etc. Thai include that done by all of the avast shields. As a resident antivirus it is going to be scanning activity on your system, it doesn’t scan of its own volition.
Whilst compiling this post my avastSvc.exe is at 0%, but that will rise and fall normally during system activity or browsing, downloads, etc. In the task manager if you click on the check CPU column heading it sorts in order of use, so it could be that activity that is triggering avast to scan.
The AutoUpdate Implementation that you highlighted if it is avast related should only be there for the duration of an auto update check. To confirm if it is avast related right click on that task manager entry and select Properties - this gives you information on the file/process, such as its location, version number, digital signature, etc. etc.
Ah I see I found out what it was in the end it was just an update from Windows and everything is running normally again and about the 1.5 thing it was more than that about 9.0 % wasn’t able to capture it when it was at a high running level but yeah everything is working fine again now.
Even 9% isn’t unusual for the main avast scanner for short periods of time, scan quickly and then allow things to get back to normal. Resident AV scanners run at high priority (for obvious reasons), so for short periods will use system resources (CPU/RAM) to intercept and scan files/traffic - if as you mention a windows auto update was running then it is likely to trigger avast activity.
I see thank you for the explanation now what would be considered a large amount of usage by avast service?
