Hello all,
I am having Avast Service (with Avast Antivirus as a subitem as shown in the Task Manager) produce high CPU load periodically. It eats up to 85,6% of the CPU while showing little to no disk activity (like 0,1 MB/s). The problem is that the CPU is Core i7 870, and still it gets all cores loaded with the listed total. That’s too much, the PC becomes too sluggish to e.g. work with an IDE or even Microsoft Word with the richer document opened. Avast GUI itself refuses to respond sometimes.
How can I fix that? I saw some older posts about uninstalling the software update component, but I don’t see that option in the Avast GUI.
My OS is Windows 10 Pro.
Thanks,
Kirill
- Which Avast…? (Free/Premium/One): Avast Premium Security
- Which version/build of Avast…? Program: 21.7.2481 (build 21.7.6523.689), Virus definition: 211001-0, UI version: 1.0.663
- OS…? (32/64 Bit…? - which SP/Build…?) Windows 10 Pro x64, version 2004, build 19041.1237, Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.3530.0; Russian as the system language
- Other security related software installed…? Antivirus: none. OpenVPN installed but not always running, NordVPN installed but rarely used
- Which AV(s) did you use before Avast…? Long time Avast user here.
The issue with the CPU load happens sometimes. I was able to remedy it only by a reboot.
Thanks!
Thanks, Asyn! After corrections, it has been working without problems for a week. Case closed.
