Avast Service high CPU usage

Hi. Lately, I have experienced lag when playing games like Valorant so I decided to check my Task Manager to see “Avast Service” taking 20-40% of my CPU. I check whether it happens while normal usage (not intensive usage like gaming) and see that it also time-to-time start taking 20-40% of CPU for a while before dropping down to 3-5%.

How can I determine what exactly is causing the high CPU usage?

Additional Note:

  • Operating System: Windows 10, 64-bit
  • Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 1600 Six-Core
  • Ram: 32 GB

Edit 1
As I monitor my system more closely… I see that Avast Service time-to-time spike to 50-60% CPU, which is quite abnormal. Is there a chance that it’s a malicious service disguised as Avast Service or perhaps a malicious process is running in the system and Avast is actively blocking/analyzing the process, thus the high CPU usage?

Hi,

Please submit a performance recording.

After experiencing more inconvenience due to Avast taking around 50% of my CPU power when I am playing Valorant or using VMware and having no direct way to debug the reason behind the high CPU consumption, I have decided to move on to a different antivirus provider. This thread can be closed.

Stil high CPU usager especially after start period.
Without any other running task.
