When I try and use Avast on my laptop I am getting screen ‘Avast Service is not Running’ and it won’t restart or let me activate. Tried rebooting laptop but problem remains. At the top of Avast screen it says Beta which may have been running since I tested fix to Safezone problem earlier in the year. My licence is valid until Feb 2017 so I am not happy about this. How do I go about refreshing my version of Avast so that it is up to date.
To get away from the beta testing stream you will need to do a clean reinstall.
Download the latest version of avast, 12.3.2280 (use the …_setup_offline.exe file links) - See https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=189836.0 for direct download links for your paid version. Save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again (if you didn’t save your last download). Use that when you reinstall.
- Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, avastclear.exe http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avastclear.exe and save it to your HDD.
-
- Now uninstall avast! - using add remove programs/Programs & Features, if you can’t do that start from the next step, reboot.- 2. run the avast! Uninstall Utility, it will request it be run from safe mode (and will handle the boot into safe mode), once complete reboot into normal mode.- 3. install the latest version, reboot.
Note: save the copy of avastclear.exe so it can be reused as some users are reporting that after running it, it is self-deleting.

Apply the valid license file or use the Resend avast License (if you didn’t save it) https://www.avast.com/resend-license-paid.php, you will need to enter the email that you used when purchasing the license, e.g. the one that the original email with the link was sent.
Well that has sorted out Avast but I can now not get into my online banking (Halifax) via Safezone just get passed back to first login screen. This is the problem I was having earlier in the year and is not acceptable that it is now happening again.
I too have an account with Halifax, but I very rarely use it for internet banking, plus I don’t use the avast SafeZone to try and test this.
I don’t know if Halifax could have changed their authentication method recently, which could also impact on the safezone browser (two step, etc.) ?
How do I raise a support ticket for Avast to resolve this problem.
