Today I got several registration in event viewer saying that avast service stop running, event id 7031. Also definition update is set to check for updates every 4h, but after I reset my pc 1h ago there is new definition folder in Avast dir. What is going on? I’m using version 11.1.2245.
The 4 hours is for the VPS updates, not for the streaming updates.
avast checks for updates when the system is booted and after that each 4 hours (or whatever you set it to).
Yes, I know, and I’m talking just about it, not streaming. But what about service stop running?
Edit:
Ok, VPS update is related to service stop running msg. It looks like avast is restarting itself after this stop and that’s why it’s checking for VPS update.
Since yesterday’s update, mine has had a similar behavior as well, a few times. Just now it actually reconnected on its own after a few minutes. Not sure what’s causing it.
Thanks for reporting this! Please check the VPS update in case you see similar issue, that should fix it for you. Thanks again. L.
Avast updated to version 12.3.2280 (build 12.3.3154.0), VPS 16081901. Still the same problem.
Same issue, its the first time i see this since using avast ,suddenly this morning a red ! mark in avast icon, solve everything, had to start service
I didn’t had it with 2279
v 2280
I am having the same problem. Avast randomly disables itself. First noticed it today. Also running v2280.
I have the same issue. Started approximately yesterday at around 17:20PM… just slightly before a batch of virus definitions were released…
I am on Windows 7 Home 64 bit SP1, Avast! program version 11.2.2262 and the Avast! service stops… but according to windows logs, will mostly restart the service itself… but today it did not restart and the service was not running until I manually started it myself.
Not sure what’ss happening but it seems this is a universal thing at the moment.
Could you try to update the virus definition manually and see if it’s still happening. Latest release should be 160820-0 as of now - or higher - it’s in YYMMDD-# format.
Just received 160820-0 VPS update, I restarted my pc after this.
In Avast defs folder there is only 16082000_stream and 160820-0 folders and of course aswdefs.ini file.
Before restart there was also 160819-1 folder.
I will update this post in case of error. Lets hope it won’t occur.
That’s correct. Folder has the same name as virus definition version.
It might be worth to look at Event viewer as well, if there are some error messages after new update.
And thanks a lot for reporting the issue.
4h after VPS update and reboot… no errors looks good
Avast just cheked for new VPS by autoupdate, also no errors.
Last update: 7h without error. Problem solved.
