avast.setup - Application Error (BIG TWIST)

Okay. Before you start saying this has been resolved, I already know that. But there’s a bigger problem for me to get through. Background information:

  • My brother has avast installed on his computer and we’re both sure that avast is causing the problem.
  • He is currently running Windows XP (I don’t know the bit, it’s probably 32)
  • This happened before. His solution was to dust everything out with compressed air (we’re out of CA at the moment) but I say that was just very coincidental.

The problem is: when the computer starts and has finally reached to the desktop, it restarts; causing a loop. It will go on continuously and at 10% of the time (estimate) it will have a window pop-up saying:

The instruction at “0x76f61182” referenced memory at “0x0000000”. The memory could not be “written”. Click on OK to terminate the program.

OR

The instruction at “0x76f6113a” referenced memory at “0x57f6750c”. The memory could not be “read”. Click on OK to terminate the program.

If I click ‘OK’ it will do nothing for 5 seconds and then restart. I’ve been trying to get it to have the message “The instruction at “0x76f61182” referenced memory at “0x0000000”. The memory could not be “written”. Click on OK to terminate the program.” for about 10 minutes so that I could use [ http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=65191.0 ] solution. Though, it never pops up so I can’t get the chance to do anything.

What’s the best solution? And do you think that avast! is causing the computer to restart at an infinite loop?

Thanks in advance if you can help us!
