Avast shields and avast UI

Just wanted to make sure that the avast shields and functionality are not tied functionally to AvastUI. I mean, theoretically, one could run the AV without the UI and still be protected. Right ?

Protection is given by services and drivers loaded, not by the interface.
In case of avast, you can even hide the icon on system tray and have the same protection.

That is what I believed too, but thanks for confirming. Now, I only wish devs would give us a better way to restart the GUI without compromising Avast’s self-defense mechanism.

What do you mean? Is the interface crashing? What is “restart” for you?
Just run avastUI.exe will start the interface again…

The interface did not crash, it had a glitch which required it to be restarted in order to get fixed. Check my previous post http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=62213.0.

By restarting the UI I mean: shutting it down and starting it again.

In that case, since the UI was still loaded, running avastUI would have just opened the interface, not restarted it.

Yes. You need to boot.

No you don’t and you shouldn’t have to

How did you do then? ???

Well… If possible, it would be good.

Fixed by going to settings, unticked the self protect option, killed and restarted AvastUI.exe.

PS: Yeah scanned with Hitman and MBAM before this step, just to be sure.

Messing with the self-protect option is what I did not want to do, and the point of this thread

Well… Not the clean way…

Yep, that was the point, one should not have to reboot to fix an UI glitch
