Avast Shields Disabled Constantly!

So this has been happening to me for awhile. My Avast is constantly disabled. If I click on it it says “UI Failed to load. This is really embarassing. AV service is not responding.” and I can exit or restart the service.
I’ve clicked restart service but it never fixes it.
I’ve tried to restart services or stop and start them from the Services menu in windows.
I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling Avast.
For a short time it seemed like it fixed itself and it was working for a few months and now it’s doing it again.
HELP?!

Repair Avast:

  1. Control Panel → Add/Remove programs → Avast
  2. Click on ‘Repair’.
  3. Follow instructions.
  4. Reboot.

It didn’t work unfortunately. I tried it twice. I also made sure to close all my other programs just in case before doing it.

  • Which Avast…? (Free/Pro/IS/Premier)
  • Which version…?
  • OS…? (32/64 Bit…? - which SP/Build…?)
  • Other security related software installed…?
  • Which AV(s) did you use before Avast…?
  • Which Avast…? Free
  • Which version…? 17.5.2303
  • OS…? Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit
  • Other security related software installed…? Superantispyware, Malwarebytes, Advanced Systemcare.
  • Which AV(s) did you use before Avast…? None on this install of my OS.

Perform a clean installation of the latest avast version with the offline installer.

First, be sure to get rid of Advanced Systemcare…!!

Then:

  1. Download Avast Free Antivirus: https://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup_offline.exe
  2. Follow instructions: https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed Avast versions…!!)
  3. Reinstall Avast with the downloaded installer from point 1.
  4. Reboot.

PS: Regarding Avast & MBAM, see: https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/200324-exclusions-for-avast-users/

I had this issue before but I had no virus that could be disabling the shields. Don’t know how but it eventually went away on its own. Maybe it was a bug in the antivirus, I don’t know. I am currently running Avast Free Antivirus by the way.

Yeah I thought it went away on it’s own too but it didn’t.

The above instructions appear to have worked! If anything changes I’ll return to this thread. Thanks guys!

You’re welcome.
