Avast shortcut icon has disappeared from desktop & Programs list

I am using WIN XP PRO V.5.1.2600 SP 3.0 32 bit. Main browser is Firefox latest version

When I logged in today found that Avast icon has disappeared from desktop.
I did Start>Programmes> to re-add the shortcut, but it’s not there either.
I looked in Set Programmes Access Defaults, it’s still there also it’s on the Taskbar at the bottom of the screen, happily working away…
How do I get the icon back on my desktop, please?
Is this a sign of a problem?
Any help would be gratefully received

No not a sign of a problem’
You can try a ‘Repair’ of your Avast installation. Go to Control Panel/ add and Remove programs, choose Avast, then scroll to REPAIR in the installation set up options and follow instructions, Reboot.
Is the icon back on the Desktop?

Thank you, schmidthouse, I did try that, but there is no ‘REPAIR’ option…
Any other ideas?

You may have to scroll.
When in Add and Remove programs and you select Avast (Change) you should then presented with install options.
