Ok Avast keeps showing MBAM Pro is infected I have uninstalled and reinstalled and scanned both ways is this a false postive or do I have a problem? Here is a screen grab
Just memory detections, you can ignore them.
It isn’t saying MBAM is infected, it is saying some of its Processes have loaded data into memory (unencrypted virus signatures) and avast is alerting on that content.
Detections in Memory -
My guess is that you are doing a Custom scan in which you have elected to scan Memory and that all these detections are in memory or are listings of files that can’t be scanned. Since they aren’t physical files they can’t be moved to the chest, deleted, etc. so there is no action that can be taken, hence the Apply button being greyed out.
The detections in memory are frequently other security applications loading unencrypted virus signatures into memory. Having set off a scan of memory by an antivirus application looking for virus signatures, don’t be too surprised if it finds some in memory.
- You can set the exclusion (e.g. for the particular scan you created) as follows (mbam example):
*PROCESS*\mbam.exe - then the MBAM.exe process won’t be scanned at all, you would have to add the other for mbamservice.exe.
Personally I would give the memory scan a miss.
Ok thanks makes me feel better. Can I safely delete the old Spybot files since I no longer use the program? I am assuming those were old virus vault removals that didnt go away when I stopped using the program and changed to MbamPro.
Yes.
Off topic, but I guess my previous virus was defo a FP since I checked your screenshot and the same result for the MBAM service. (Win32:Downloader-MIU)
No it wasn’t a false positive, that is the whole point you set an antivirus of scanning for virus signatures, don’t be surprised when it alerts when it finds them. Even if they happen to be unencrypted virus signatures from another security application.
The same as buying an attack dog, don’t be surprised when it bites.
