Whenever i try installing AVAST, i get an error saying “An error 3 (00000003) has occurred. Last performed operation was: spawning”. I even tried downloading avast again but the same problem pops up. please help…

Can you advise your OS, and the AV that was previously installed (if any), even from a long time ago.
Are you running an admin account, and if on Vista, did you try running the installer file as an admin?
I’m running win XP pro SP3 as administrator. I had avast installed previously but it had stopped responding and was givin’ me RPC errors so i uninstalled it. Now i’m unable to reinstall it.
What I’d try:
-download the Avast uninstall utility http://www.avast.com/eng/avast-uninstall-utility.html and save it to the desktop.
-disconnect from the net
-reboot into safe mode, run the uninstall utility
-reboot to normal
-install Avast afresh.
See how that goes.
[edit] PS, was there ever another AV installed, or installed now, even if disabled?

Yes i think, I probably didn’t uninstall avast completely before trying to reinstall it.
