I am running XP SP3 and recently the Avast main program has started to shut down straight after I select start scanning, I have run a boot scan but it comes up clean. I have also downloaded the aswclnr program but this also shuts down when it reaches Windows/System32/Temp folder with no indication of why. I have tried running A Squared Free with no suspect files being found and Malwarebytes but this also shuts down mid scan, if I try to open the Windows folder I get the ‘sorry windows explorer has encountered a problem and must shut down’ message each time. I am guessing I have picked up a virus but not sure where to go from here, have tried running Trendmicro Housecall but even after running it for two hours it does not proceed past the preparing stage, any advice greatly appreciated.
you can give superantispyware a shot superantispyware.com it can also be a hardware problem but not sure what that could be then, better wait for someone with a bit more knowledge in that aria help you. but give superantispyware a shot, you can also try Dr web cure it a shot http://www.freedrweb.com/cureit/
Good luck and hope you can solve your problem.
Thanks Mikaelrask will give those two a try, have also run the computer in Safe Mode and was able to run a full Avast scan which detected no problems, but back in normal mode problem still occurring.
If you have problems with the MBAM scan or Superantispyware could you let me know as there is a new variant malware out now that is proving troublesome, in as much as it stops all antimalware programmes running
Ran Dr Web which picked up several viruses so then ran Superantispyware which found a total of 13 other viruses including Trojan Backdoor, after removal I tried again to run Avast and the avast aswclnr programs but they still close down when they are scanning the Windows folder. Windows explorer still closing when I try to open the folder so am not too sure whether I have a major virus lurking somewhere or some other issue.
Any ideas anyone???
