Hi everyone:
A little over a week ago, I noticed that the upload speed of my uTorrent program has slowed tremendously and I suspect Avast may somehow be responsible. I suspect that a recent Avast update has caused this but I’m unsure how to check or how to change settings to get my uTorrent upload rate back up. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Have you already checked the settings in uTorrent?
If not do that first.
Close all applications and test your speed here: http://www.speedtest.net/
Does it show the speed you are supposed to get?

You can also try torrenting with webshield (or all shields) off. If its caused by avast, you should see the speed back with shields off.
What avast edition? Free? Pro? Ais? What os? Xp? Win 7?

I am currently running the free version of Avast (2014.9.0.2011). How do I torrent using (or not use) webshields? I’m unfamiliar with that.
The latest version is 9.0.2013…
Update from avast! UI > Settings > Update > Update Program then reboot…
See if that fixes it…
To turn off ALL shields : avast! tray icon (right click) > Disable > [choose time limit]
To turn off a specific shield such as Web Shield : avast! UI > Settings > Active Protection>Click the slider of the Web Shield
