Avast! slows down IE8.....Help!

Hello Fellow Avast! Forum Memembers-

Avast seems to be slowing down IE8 something fierce! I checked all the settings for Avast (real-time shields, etc.), and don’t think I should change any of the settings because it looks as though it might make my computer vulnerable. Does anyone, who has expert skills, know how I might adjust Avast settings and speed up IE8, without making my computer vulnverable?

Also, I am running Win Defender, and I’ve had conflicting comments as to whether it is OK to have more than one anti-virus program, or not. I hesistate in getting rid of Win Defender because it is designed to work with Windows, but I like Avast too.

I have Avast Program Version (FREE): 6.0.1289
Avast Virus Definition Version: 111-03-0
I have Wind XP,MS Office Pro 2007,(IE8).

The avast default settings are the best for a balance between speed and protection, what i would suggest is removing defender from your system, although defender can be run beside avast it is rather pointless as avast is far better abled to do the job as defender has a low detection rate and all it is really doing on your system is sucking resources.
If you want to run a second opinion scan periodically then Malwarebytes is your best choice.

Easy solution: Use another browser.

Well it is a rare occasion when I ever use IE8 and it is no race horse, but it doesn’t seem to have any adverse effect for me. On my XP system I don’t have Windows Defender (WD), so I would start by disabling that.

WD is an anti-spyware not an anti-virus so shouldn’t be an issue, but may well have an impact.
