I have now done several tests, and they are simply too convincing:
Avast slows down downloads.
When I download something from a server in the US: I get numbers of down 0.57Mbps and up 1.17Mbps
When I deactivate Avast completely I get numbers of down 3.08 Mbps and up 2.16
Speed is reduced to 1/6th???
But when I asked the question, I was told Avast does not slow down downloads.
I find that not really acceptable, can I do something about that?
Avast does not slow down downloads.I have tried it with my PC, with avast on, my download is24.27 mbps upload is 0.47 mbps. With Avast off 24.31 and 0.49.Thats only one run,if I do more runs it might be a bit different but not by much. You haven’t given any specific of what os your running and what else your running.
I am using Win7 ultimate and Ff latest version. I did both measurements within two minutes, one with the Avast Moduls turned off and immediately afterwards with Avast turned on. I did it three times and the speed with Avast turned off was 1/6th each time.
If you in your tests get the same speeds, what could be the reason for this?
(As in all measurements the firewall was the same, it could not have had any influence… right?)
Throttled Connection. Could be a family member or friend using your Internet. Many different Factors can play into this. My internet is 85 Down 25 up (mbps). I’ve had no issues with Avast in the 5-6years I’ve been using it.
