Avast slows me down at Facebook

I run Windows Vista with service pack 2. A couple of months ago I started using Avast Free and my computer ran very smoothly. Then I upgraded to Avast Internet Security. Now I often have trouble while at Facebook sites. It will run smoothly and quickly at first, but after awhile it takes longer to change from page to page, and eventually I just have to close the tab and go elsewhere for a while. I use Chrome and have tried enabling and disabling the extensions for Avast and Facebook. They’re the only extensions I have. I don’t really know what extensions are.

I also have trouble with Avast SafeZone. It always freezes after a while and I have to take the battery out and put it right back in to unfreeze the laptop.

Any ideas? I’d appreciate any input.

Thanks.

try doing a new clean install…

follow instructions and run it for all avast versions ever installed on computer. http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility

download and reinstall. http://www.avast.com/download-software

any change?

and you have of course removed any previous used or factory installed AV before installing avast ?

General: Uninstalling a third-party antivirus software. http://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB11

I had uninstalled previous AV. Computer ran very smooth with Avast Free, then tried 30 day trial–didn’t run as smooth. Went back to Avast Free, ran smoothly. To take advantage of discount I bought Avast Internet Security before year’s end in hope I could work out the kinks.

I did a full/clean uninstall. Then installed Avast Internet Security again. Still works well at Facebook for a while, but then goes very slowly, so that I have to close the tab and go elsewhere for a while.

Also, SafeZone still freezes up on me. I updated from Avast free for SafeZone and in hope that an Avast firewall would be better than the Windows firewall.

Also seem to be having a problem with SafeZone, also on Vista SP2.

When existing SafeZone, and returning to Windows desktop, the operating system freezes (some applications still running, but they also freeze). Hard shutdown and reboot required.

I was still running Windows Defender. I have now turned off Windows Defender antivirus. (I don’t see any means of uninstalling this AV. Suggestions?)

You cannot uninstall Defender as it is part of Windows, also Defender on xp, vista, win7 is not an AV - it’s anti spyware.
