I’m experiencing persistent high CPU and memory usage from “Avast Software Analyzer” on Windows while using Avast Premium Security.
Trigger:
The issue starts after launching Codex. Codex appears to be a Chromium-based application installed under WindowsApps.
Symptoms:
- “Avast Software Analyzer” starts using high CPU after running Codex
- Memory usage grows to over 3GB RAM
- The process continues for hours without stopping
- The high usage continues even after Codex is fully closed
- Killing all Codex-related processes does NOT stop the high usage
- Disabling individual shields does NOT resolve the issue
Important observation:
The issue only resolves temporarily if I disable ALL shields (for 10 minutes or 1 hour) and then re-enable them. After that, CPU usage returns to normal — but only until Codex is launched again.
This suggests that the Software Analyzer process is getting stuck and not resetting properly after being triggered by Codex.
What I already tried:
- Updated Avast to latest version
- Completely uninstalled using Avast Clear
- Reinstalled Avast Premium Security
- Disabled all shields
- Disabled individual shields
- Added exceptions for Codex installation folder:
C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\OpenAI.Codex_26.325.3894.0_x64__2p2nqsd0c76g0\app - Fully terminated all Codex-related processes
- Rebooted system multiple times
None of the above resolved the issue.
Has anyone experienced this with Avast Software Analyzer?
Is this a known bug?
Any workaround or fix would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
