Avast software folder not deleting when uninstalling Avast free AV

Hi,

I downloaded Foxit reader today and I did not notice that the installation included Avast free antivirus. I already have another antivirus installed, so I uninstalled Avast. But for some reason the Avast shortcut was still on my desktop and the “Avast software” folder is still in my program files (size is 1,3gb). Avast itself is not showing up in installed programs in the control panel anymore. I have downloaded and ran Avastclear multiple times both in safe mode and normal and I have made sure in Avastclear that the correct folder is selected, but the “avast software” folder is still in my program files. Is it fine to delete the folder manually or do you have any suggestions for a fix?

Any help is appreciated.

You can delete the folder manually if required.

Very disappointing when companies include these prechecked boxes for other unwanted software :frowning:

Uninstall Avast
Download the Avast Uninstall Utility to your Desktop http://www.avast.com/en-gb/uninstall-utility
For Windows XP and Vista get the Avast Removal tool from here https://install.avcdn.avast.com/iavs9x-xp/avastclear.exe
Uninstall Avast via control panel and follow the directions.
Run the Uninstall Utility and accept the reboot to safe mode
Once complete reboot your system.

Seems the OP has already tried all your methods Bob, avastclear has never done a good job of removing file remnants and even worse on clearing their leftovers from the registry.

It clears our anything that might interfere with another program.
You’re correct, Avast certainly could have done a better job on the cleanup tool.
It actually needs to be re-written since many items now wind up in the registry.
