My Avast Software Update shows an error for Adobe Reader.
If I refresh it says update available.
If I update it says no update available and goes back to the error.

What version of Adobe Reader do you have?
Additional question/factor: Which Windows version are you running? — If you’re still on XP, the last supported Adobe Reader for XP is 11.0.8 , so if the Software Updater is advising you that a newer version exists (currently 11.0.12), it’s not intended for XP systems.
I’m on Windows 7 Home Premium, I believe I have the correct, latest version installed.
Adobe Reader 9.4.7
I’d open the reader program and check for latest updates to see if there are any newer versions.
It appears that you are not using the free version, correct, as I am showing version 9.10.x is available? If so, then avast is doing it’s job correctly but for some reason is not able to automatically update it for you.
Suggest manually updating the program and then rebooting. After that, open Software Updater (if need be, refresh the page) and see where you stand.
Cracked versions will never update properly and are a security risk to your system.
Ok after manual update, thanks
Glad to help.
As I did not know your version (information missing) you might want to bookmark these sites for future reference:

There’s been a rash of Adobe Flash and Reader exploits over the last year with many enterprise and consumer systems compromised. If you can do without either, strongly recommended. A safer alternative to Adobe Reader here: http://www.sumatrapdfreader.org/free-pdf-reader.html
