Avast software updater and Opera

Avast software updater shows that there is update for Opera. If I try to update, avast shows error. My current Opera version is 33.0.1990.115. Is this a bug?

Click on “Refresh”.

I did. Nothing happened. Guess I’ll just have to ignore updates for Opera.

did you reboot?

Yes, did not help.

Hi stam1na

I am using Opera too, and I don’t have this problem.
Please try this :

Avast - Scan - Scan for outdated software - Software update settings - Database reset (troubleshooting) - Reset database now - Yes.

… and let me know if this helps you.

Hi!

Resetting database did not work :frowning:

Repair Avast:

  1. Control Panel → Add/Remove programs → Avast
  2. Click on ‘Repair’.
  3. Follow instructions.
  4. Reboot.

@stam1na

I see the same issue. I too am being told by Avast that Opera is out-of-date but Opera itself is saying otherwise. I have the same version of Opera as you: 33.0.1990.115. I am running Opera in English UK on Win 7 x64. Currently running Avast 11.1.2245 but I have a memory of getting the same message using Avast 10 before updating (which was done using the Avast clean tool).

It is interesting that Rednose doesn’t see the problem.

The software updater has another flaw also.
It only checks version numbers, not system specifications/requirements.

So if you have e.g. Opera installed on a system that does not support SSE2 instructions, the software updater will say there is a newer version.
Although there is indeed a newer version, installing it will make Opera not to work anymore.

Avast repair did not work. Opera has built-in auto-update so I will let Opera handle updates automatically.
Good to know that software updater has flaws, like Eddy said. Hopefully avast team can improve software updater in future versions of avast.
