Avast Software Updater is not working; resetting doesn't help

Hello, for ages now my computer won’t let me update unless I go through Avast’s Software Updater. Even disabling the shield won’t work. I tried tonight to download Adobe AIR’s update and the computer ignored me every time I clicked Open. It’s been really annoying, but as long as I could still use Software Updater I knew I could update stuff eventually.

The only problem now is, Software Updater won’t work either. I tried that Resetting thing twice tonight and nothing helped. I still get “Installation failed; try again later” every time I’ve tried to update something this week! I absolutely have to get these things updated; it’s critical for my work that everything is up-to-date. I don’t know what I’m going to do.

I’m trying and trying to post the thing, and the forum won’t let me! It keeps deleting what I say and says the message body is empty! But I see the log is saying “Product not installed” for everything. Why on Earth would it say that for programs that have definitely been installed for years?!

Save the log as a txt format and attached to “Attachments and other options” :slight_smile:

Free Version, both the previous one and the current one. I think the only other security software is the Windows Firewall. And I have CCleaner… I’ve used Avast for years. I think I tried MacAfee before it… I can’t stand MacAfee.

I have to admit I’m still using Windows XP… 32-bit. I like XP better than any of the Windows that have come after it, but I know I’ll have to update the OS before long. Sigh.

I found a way around the update problem; when I clicked the Properties of all the downloaded update programs, I found that some silly overprotective security thing had Blocked them. I had to Unblock them and then I could use them. But that’s only for direct use; I still can’t go through Avast Software Updater to update anything and I don’t know whether Avast is being stupid and blocking itself (which it’s actually done sometimes, like blocking its own website) or if it’s Windows or if it’s something else.
