Avast Software Updater Launches Windows Update???

Just installed Avast Free, version 2015.10.0.2208 on a new laptop running Windows 8.1 64-bit. I’m running the same version of Avast on three other computers, two running Windows 7 64-bit, and another one running Windows 8.1 64-bit. The new laptop is the only one I get this strange behavior on. When I use the Avast Software Updater feature, it lists two items as needing update - Adobe Flash Player ActiveX and Mozilla Firefox. When I click the “Update” button next to either on, the Microsoft Windows Update window launches! Not sure where to go from here. I guess I could un-install and re-install Avast, but I didn’t get any errors on the first install, and otherwise, Avast appears to be working normally. Anyone out there observed this strange behavior or have any ideas?

I’m not a Win 8 user but I do know that the active x version of Flash is embedded in Internet Explorer on Win 8 systems. I would think that software updater is launching Windows Update to get the latest IE with the Flash update.

That is correct you can only update flash from windows updates on windows 8
