Avast Software Updater

I don’t like it.

How can I get rid of the software updater. Yesterday it told me to update my Java and I ended up with all sorts of junk on my computer that was difficult to remove. Now I’m afraid to use it again for any updates.

Any advice?

I did this:

-Control Panel -
-Programs-
-Avast-
-chose “Change”
-then removed components such as Software Updater that I did not want.

Then Avast’s set-up program removed those components I unchecked, but left the rest of Avast 8, including my setting, in place.

Do you mean that avast! while installing Java has bring “junk” with Java (like AskToolbar)?

Might have been that McAfee program.

You can opt out if you prefer.
