I installed Avast! v4.7 a few days ago. I began receiving wanings of a virus spammer. I ran avast anti-virus, I ran a Boot-time scan and nothing was reported. I then put the internet mail shield to the «high» level and I got the report that my pc had a bunch of spam e-mails being send from it. I can’t get the name of the virus/trojan and avast! (although «a vast» operating anti-virus ) doesn’t report anything. But, at the same time, «avast! mail scanner» continues to report that it’s checking outgoing e-mail. I only use internet-mail (hotmail and the likes) so it’s not me and the messages are sent with other names. What’s wrong and what can I do to ERRADICATE this problem? I don’t want to desguise it, I whany it stopped, for it consumes net speed and my net acount limit. Thanks.
Maybe you should use TCPView of www.sysinternals.com to see which application is sending emails and then try to identify the problem.
Other thing is running trojan detectors: a-squared, ewido or Spyware Terminator (trojan removers).
Thanks, tech, for your reply. I ended up solving the problem in a simple way: withour formating the disk I made a new instalation of Win Xp. When all was finished my computer had the sme files, the same configuration, the same programs (like avast!( installed and shortcuted. But no more mails being sent once I activated my net. I have to computers with win xp, a pc and a laptop. I noticed that the «avast!» on the laptop didn’t send the spam e-mails the pc did. And the difference was a program I installed after avast! on my pc but not on my laptop. So it was a trojan of some sort. But the reinstalation (without formating) of my win xp solved. But I never got to see the name of the trojan… ;D ??? :-\
Well, it’s not a simple way but the most terrorist one ;D ;D
Glad you’re clean now 8)
