Is it me or does avast ignore the files that SPYBOT put in quarantine? ???
avast! can’t reach it. Spybot has its own way of isolating the files in its quarantine so no other process, file, service, etc can access the file and cause further damage/spread. So as Spybot can’t scan avast!'s virus chest.
BTW, Spybot may refer to two things:
Spybot S&D
Spybot virus
It’s Spybot S&D…So all those files will remain “unscannable” forever ? I’m also a newbie with SPYBOT…can I desinstall and reinstall in order to be able to scan?..or should I simply not even bother?
You don’t need to uninstall and reinstall just do some house keeping and remove old restore/quarantined items.
Spybot Search & Destroy, uses passwords to protect its quarantine/files, etc. (and avast doesn’t know the password or have any way of using it even if it did know it).
When you run scans with the above programs and you delete harmful entries that they detect, a copy is kept (in quarantine/restore/backup) in case you need to reverse what you did. These are usually password protected, you should do some housekeeping and delete old backup/recovery/quarantine entries (older than two weeks or so), this will reduce the numbers of files that can’t be scanned.
By examining 1) the reason given by avast! for not being able to scan the files, 2) the location of the files, you can get an idea of what program they relate to. You may need to expand the column headings to see all the text.
