I’m new to Avast and learning all of the features. Avast registers in my Vista Security Center as both an AV and AS. What type of protection does the AS offer. Is it sufficient to run as a stand alone AS, or does it need to be complimented by another program? I plan on adding SpywareBlaster and WinPatrol. Currently, I have Avast and Windows Defender running. Does this conflict (Avast and WD)?
SpywareBlaster is a passive application so it worth adding.
WD is compatible with avast though it has on occasion disabled the avast system try icon. However, I don’t think much of it.
The others shouldn’t be an issue with avast.
Good choices
Windows defender is the old Windows or Microsoft Anti Spyware which was Giant Anti Spyware before purchased by MS
was quite good in it’s day and may provide reasonable real time anti spyware protection today- where free real time AS protection is hard to find
AS an on demand scanner it may not have as big a database as some of the others- but if it finds anything it will work just fine-- really to do much better costs $$
Spyware Doctor is available via downloading the google toolbar and unchecking everything else
not knowing how much horsepower and ram you have or your surfing habits it’s hard to advise
Super anti spyware free is on demand only
I have 3 GB of memory with an AMD Turion X2 processor.
I also have MBAM as an on-demand scanner.
I am comfortable with a combination of WD, WinPatrol and SpywareBlaster as AS protection. Just wanted to doublecheck since Avast registered in the security center as AS protection. Until then I thought it provided AV only. The real-time AS protection that Avast provides will not conflict with other real-time AS programs then? Thanks for the responses.
You’re welcome.
No, they won’t conflict.
