Yes they are required in what is an on-access antivirus it has to be waiting in the wings so to speak. It may also depend on the Avast components you have installed.
Some of the duplication is to a certain degree, multi-tasking which speeds things up.
Rather than looking just at the number look at the resources used (see my attached image) the top part I expanded as these are basically the AvastUI entries, The others are below. Then just compare it with other processes, such as your browser (Firefox in my case has 10 processes running, multi tasking also) basically one for each open tab. This is using way more than Avast as far as resources used are concerned.
overseer.exe is not running although I have that file on my machine.
I didn’t see an attached image and my browser (Palemoon) only has one process no matter how many tabs are open.
And I didn’t get the verification image this time
(And I’ve just noticed an ‘Attach’ option which I didn’t seem to have earlier - that would have made it easier to attache the image I had from my Task Manager. Not to worry)
Thanks for that. I thought I had used the preview but obviously was too concerned about checking what I had written.
I did have a pic ready to go but didn’t spot the way to post. Finally had to do a copy/paste from Task Manager properties for each entry. Had to lie down after that :o
