Is it safe to stop the streaming updates from the startup
msconfig - startup - bunch of avast straemin stuff
I think you can’t configure the streaming updates using msconfig…
It’s hardcoded into avast and configurated through the interface.
The question would be why do you feel it is necessary, I see nothing in msconfig startup in relation to streaming ?
There is one entry for avast and that is for avast! antivirus - avastUI.exe in my XP Pro and win7 netbook and both have streaming updates enabled and no adverse effects.
As DavidR says, settings changes cannot be found in msconfig.
You can turn off streaming updates via Summary>Cloud Services>Settings. Settings is in the lower right-hand corner. Click that and a new window for Avast! Settings will open. Here you can turn off either Reputation Services or Streaming Updates.
Assuming you have version 7.0, these are new features not included or built in version 6.0, and actually make the protection of Avast! better. Streaming Updates is for virus database updates made between the regular vps updates (I get two or three per day) and I see an additional three or four streaming updates a day on top of that.
So, instead of two or so, I am now getting as many as seven per day. Example: If a file on your system is reported as infected, but you know it is clean (false positive result), a streaming update can take care of that issue much sooner.
Why turn it off? :-\
If you are seeing entries in msconfig for avast! streaming updates, they should not exist.
well I seee more than just avast UI
and those other stuff have to do with sreaming…
See pictures below re msconfig and Task Manager. Keep in mind I am running XP SP3, so pics may differ from your system.
Back shortly.
msconfig has to do with what starts up on your system, including services, and Task Manager shows what is running ATM. If you turn off (untick AvastUI) to not start because of streaming updates in msconfig, then you will have less protection without than with.
If you see other stuff (say you are running an uTorrent) then ?? streaming services or files ?? will show in either msconfig or Task Manager.
To help see what you are seeing, attach a picture of what you see as a jpeg file under “Attachments and other options.”
Are you experiencing problems?
Then post an image of it as mchain has.
Ms config says nothing
but CCleaner does
Well your image doesn’t show much as it is too small to read, having reduced the full screen image. You can be more selective by ordering the results and cropping the avast entries.
Even then my CCleaner shows only one entry, see image of my ccleaner startup for XP Pro (only 10 items in total, cropped), ordered by program. Whilst my win7 system shows many more programs/processes running on startup, there is still only one for avast.
HS2234,
I think we are making some progress here. I’ve got an idea.
Note that CCLeaner has an option to ‘Save as text file’ button in the lower right-hand corner. You can save and attach that text file in your next post, as the gif you posted prior is next to impossible to read.
You can post the entire text file or modify (isolate to lines that interest you) it to suit your needs. Your call. Once we see what you see, we will help you determine whether your original question,
Is it safe to stop the streaming updates from the startupcan be answered honestly and directly, and also answer why or why not.

In bold are avast startups
The last ones are the MS Outlook plugins, nothing to do with streaming updates and are RunOnce entries. Why they are being reported I don’t know as they shouldn’t be active as they are run once entries, that is why they don’t feature in the MSConfig Startup.
Basically this run once entry is registering the dll files for the avast MS Outlook plug-in.
HS2234
Are you experiencing problems?Have not heard anything yet.
CCleaner is a moderately powerful program primarily used to clean temp files, etc. Used without sufficient knowledge and training, it can destroy functionality in programs you want to run when you use optional features built into it.
Why use it as a substitute for msconfig? Once you delete a registry entry in there, it is gone forever. Recommend only disabling an entry, never delete. Never use a registry cleaner of any kind, as entries needed can be deleted you may need later, and you will then find out when you need a program to run.
As DavidR says;
Basically this run once entry is registering the dll files for the avast MS Outlook plug-in.These are the entries Avast registers at start-up only: asOutExt.dll and asOutExt64.dll. This tells me you have a 64-bit system, either Vista or Win 7, or maybe XP Pro 64-bit? It also tells me that you run Outlook as an email client. I run a web-based email client, so I do not have these entries in CCleaner.
As DavidR says, these items serve to protect Outlook from harm. Why would you disable them? Same goes for avastUI.exe" /nogui, although that is used for streaming updates.
There is an entry for AVG (antivirus?) also in CCleaner log. Do you use AVG as well?
No HKLM:Run AvgUninstallURL cmd.exe /c start http://www.avg.com/ww.special-uninstallation-feedback-appf?lic=NFVXV1UtV0JEWEMtVllGTjMtUURKTUgtNDJBT0EtSzZIVTk"&"inst=NzctMTE4Njk5NDg0My1TVDEyRk9JKzEtRERUKzA"&"prod=90"&"ver=2012.0.1913"&"mid=934d47a440ff47d1a74fcd3c4eba2c2d-ca1045dc21577Again, any problems? Are you using a dial-up connection, for example?
I do not run outlook :(… I used to run postbox but I stopped… I use web based email… But I think windows live mail is installed could it be that?? And ms office but no outlook… it sucks
After 15 posts, beginning with your first one, and four members have answered in total, I (we) still don’t know what the problem is. Do you have a problem with Avast! and how that problem is affecting the way your computer is running now? What, exactly, is the nature and scope of the problem, if you would be kind enough to let us know?
I dont really see anything but I think its weird that outlook plugins have intsalled when I dont have outloook…
You might not use outlook, but if it came with Office, then avast isn’t to know that you aren’t going to use outlook as it detects its presence and acts appropriately.
It did not come with office… could it be for windows live mail?
No that is specifically for MS Outlook.
The entries are redundant anyway as they are Run Once entries and I have no idea why ccleaner is even showing them.
Even if you had Outlook installed but didn’t use it these plugins wouldn’t be activated, that requires that Outlook is at least run in order for the plugins to be created within Outlook.
