avast still installed and running?

Hi,

I scanned my pc with belarc advisor and it tells me I have two antivirus programs,
both with ‘Realtime File Scanning On’.

The two programs are

avast! antivirus 4.7.1001 [VPS 000751-3]
Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security 2007

Avast was installed until june 2007, then I removed it and installed
‘Trend Internet Security 2007’.

The question is: I thought avast was fully removed, how is it possibile that the
advisor tells me it is still installed and running?

I ask this because I have some performance issue on my pc and I am investigating about it.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Download the avast uninstall utility here …

Run it to uninstall avast.

One question … why do you uninstall avast and replace it with PC-cillin? ???

Check add/remove programs. Check c:\programfiles for an Alwil software folder. If present download and run the uninstall tool. Make sure the Alwil software folder is in the box.

http://avast.com/eng/programs.html

There is no ‘Alwil software’ folder under ‘Programs’ or ‘Program files’.
I also checked again add/remove programs, and avast is not there …

Then your problem would appear to be with the Windows Security Center, XP has a known problem with the WSC either failing to detect the presence of an AV or firewall and also the problem you mention of not recognising the old AV is gone and a new one installed.

Check this - Solution when Windows Security Center does not recognize antivirus or firewall. Ignore the bit about not recognising avast as the process is the same to get it to recognise the new AV.

The WMI database which stores this information could be corrupt and if that is Where Belarc is getting its information from it is likely to be wrong.

ok, the problem was with windows security center and i fixed it.
thanks

Welcome to the forum.

And which was it? ???

Your welcome, can we help with the reason you switched from avast ?

A sinthetyc explanation for switching to pc-cillin:
I got pc-cillin for free, as the customer of an online bank, and pc-cillin is suggested by the bank. Pc-cillin has also a firewall and i think i need a good firewall for security reasons.
The pc-cillin firewall on my pc has some performance issue when i do a search with google, so i’m not so sure i will keep it, may be i’ll switch again to avast, but I need a very good firewall protecting against phishing and things like that, and also it must not slow down my browser.

Well many forum members are using comodo firewall pro (which is free) and that would appear to work fine with avast.

There are many freeware firewalls such as, Comodo, PCTools Firewall Plus, Jetico, etc. - Zone Alarm free works fine with avast and has a reasonably friendly user interface, however, the free version is becoming bloated with trial ware and is also crippled as far as outbound protection goes In the Program Control, configuration area, the slider will only goes as far as Medium protection, if you want more you have to buy the Pro version.

See http://www.matousec.com/projects/windows-personal-firewall-analysis/leak-tests-results.php .

Worst policy from ZoneLabs. It’s disappointing. I don’t recommend ZA for years now…
