Avast stop during scanning of local discs

Hi all.

Just tried to perform a complete scan of all my local drives(12 in all) which takes quite some time!
I left my PC scanning/running in order to do something else. I came back a few times to check mail and its was still scanning. But when I came back for the third time the Avast scanning window was gone and no result of the scan was shown :-\

I have seen this mentioned before but have you(Avast super team) found any errors related to this problem? Or is there anything I can try out to help? Settings for Avast are set to standard/default.

Specs:

Win Xp Pro - US version
P4 2.66GHz
1GB PC2700 RAM
2 * 120 GB Hard drives - partitioned into 12 drives

The window was gone? Just like that? :o
No error messages?

Check the task manager - is the ashSimpl.exe process still active?

Hi Vlk.

Yes the window was gone just like that! Nothing was written on the screen!
I don’t think the ashSimpl.exe process was still active but I cannot be sure. I can try to give the PC another complete scan to make sure about the ashSimpl.exe process, but you’ll have to wait a few hours for the result

Also, please turn on the generation of report for all scanned files. And have the Task Manager or perfmon started to monitor mem usage. Thanks Vlk

Hi again.

Did a full scan again and I has narrowed it down to a specific RAR file where the scanner stop and exits.

I tried to isolate the file and scan only that file and the result is the same - the scanner stop and exits.

I have now tried to expand the file and do a scan of the expanded files which consist of 40 smaller RAR(xx.r00 to xx.r38 and xx.rar) files and these are scanned although the scanner reports that one of the files is corrupt.

The size of the file is 594.928.670 bytes.

Would it be possible to put this file on a web/ftp server so that I could download it?

Anything is possible and as much as I would like to assist you, uploading 595MB would take approx. 13 hours :stuck_out_tongue: using a 128Kbit/S(and that’s on a good day!!), which is a bit to long for me!

Don’t you have a kind of a debug version of Avast that I could try out for you? One that would generate a comprehensive error report file or so which I then could return to you?

That would be a lot easier(at least for me)

OK, I’ll try to come up with something…

Thanks
Vlk

Hi Vlk

And as promised… you did… in the new version(4.1.357) everything checks out ok

And as promised... you did....

I did??? Kinda surprises me, but I’m not gonna argue… ;D

Thanks
Vlk

Is there a 4.1.357 Beta version or it was a mistake? ;D
