Avast was working great for me, auto updating itself seamlessly.
But not any more! I guess it stopped auto updating since I installed Windows Defender. Is WD known to conflict with Avast, or prevent it from auto updating?
Is there a solution to make it auto update like it used to?
(I still have its setting on auto update of both virus database and the program)
There isn’t a conflict between Windows Defender and avast…
If you open avast Log viewer, go to Notice tab, do you see any error info there?
I’m using Windows Defender, folks I support are using Windows Defender.
None of us has encountered any problem with avast automatic updates.
What is your firewall ?
Ensure it allows access to avast.setup, if it does that already, delete the entry and do a manual update, your firewall should ask permission again.
Windows defender built-in firewall is what I use.
I’ve un-installed and re-installed Avast, but it still wouldn’t auto update. I did it manually and it downloaded 22 files (close to 1mb).
I wasn’t aware windows defender had a firewall function only an anti-spyware program

If it does have a firewall function, checking the same thing for permission. Though it would also block a manual update also. All I can suggest now is to check the logs as Tech mentioned.
10 minutes bevore this writing ,have i 7 Updates from Microsoft.
But the installation did not work. So long is not normall (15min)
I take the risk,and Spysweeper out (shild) Avast out! And me Kerio Firewall.
It must,for getting these Updates.
And it Works fine. in 1min all done. And quickly Avast on and the others.
Whay is this ,there in all me software schields to stop updates, etc.
And only automaticly update"s have Free to coming in.
And these whas manually. You must searh in your logbooks,and programms.

Microsoft updates could block avast updates. Just search the board and you’ll find more.
The only difference between manual and auto updates is that in the former case, avast.setup is spawned directly by the application from which you invoked the update. In the auto-update case, however, avast.setup is executed by ashServ.exe, the avast service. The service runs under the LocalSystem account, i.e. not under the account you’re currently loggen on.
