i m using ais and it stopped all sheilds. whenever i try enable them then i got error like in screen shot here. and it shows its status in every sheild unknown. help please.
Try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow. You may need to reboot after the repair.
What version (build) of AIS is this, 5.1.889 is the latest (shows 5.0 in your signature) ?
How long have you been using this build ?
i m using 5.1.889 and i m using it from yesterday bcoz i reinstalled avast after format my pc
OK, try the repair first. You need to update your profile signature to reflect what you have installed.
repair not working…
a window open naming with installation progress and it stops there. nothing happens after that window. and it makes my pc hang n when i click anywhere then a beep sound comes.
It should look like this (see image) after clicking the Change/Remove option in add remove programs, did you get that far ?
If so did this happen after selecting Repair and clicking Next ?
There is definitely corruption in the installation then and a clean reinstall is required:

Download the latest AIS version of avast, 5.1.889 http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/setup_ais.exe and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again (if you didn’t save your last download). Use that when you reinstall.

Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, aswClear5.exe find it here and save it to your HDD (it has uninstall tools for both 4.8 and 5.x).

- Now uninstall avast! (using add remove programs, if you can’t do that start from the next step), reboot.- 2. run the avast! Uninstall Utility from safe mode, for avast 5.x, once complete reboot into normal mode.- 3. install the latest version, reboot.
i done as u said. i reinstalled it but avast giving error after everything updated till today…it was also giving the error before uninstalling it.it gives me error when i try to open avast… see screen shot
Presumably you couldn’t uninstall using add remove programs ?
Then you should have run the avast uninstall utility from safe mode, did you do that ?
i already uninstalled from add or remove. and i again installed it. and still giving me error as screen shot.
The main question is did you run the uninstall utility from safe mode ?
This will ensure that you get a clean start point for the install.
why should i run uninstall utility if i can uninstall from add or remove.
no i did not used uninstall utility.
Because if for no other reason what you have tried hasn’t worked ???
It is designed to clear registry entries, etc. giving you a clear start point. As I said your previous installation was corrupted.

i done as u said but it still giving me that pronlem today also. i ininstalled it with that utility on 26th jan…
and again it stopped all sheilds today again and i cant fix it…
so i again reinstalled avast rite now… wat wrong in avast? my pc is alrite bcoz i installed new os 2 days ago n i installed avast and from that time m having this error… this looks like avast gives problem in pc…

What system is this avastUI problem on desktop or laptop ?
As you have confused me in first saying the PC is all-right and then it isn’t, what are the differences in security in the two systems. As avast free is working fine on my XP Pro SP3 system.
Other than SAS what other security applications are installed on the system with the problem ?
Try this option, from the avast Settings (you may need to run the avastUI.exe file manually to get it open), Troubleshooting and check the Load avast! services after loading other system services.
i m getting problem with all sheilds…all sheilds stops working and i get msg in taskbar when i point my mouse on avast icon, that ur system is not protected…
when i double click avast then i get error of avastUI…i dont have any other security application. i only have AIS.
i reinstalled avast today bcoz i was not able to open avast n all sheilds getting stop… and sometimes makes my pc hang and restarts my pc automatically.when i remove avast my pc works good…wat is the problem? my pc is absolutely fine and working with comodo…i i tried that too…only getting problem in avast…i m using AIS licensed version so i dont want to use anyother virus guard…wat i do now?
I honestly don’t know, if you followed the instructions fully and in the order stated for a clean install that should have cleared all the old installation. So there has to be something else in the mix, what I just don’t know, introducing other AVs just further confuses the issue as you then have to ensure that they are completely removed also as that could get in the way.
What confuses me is that your avast icon is in the tray if as your other image shows it too is having a problem and being shutdown by windows. I just don’t know what else to suggest.
All that yet it is working fine on your notebook.
i completed followed u. i uninstall avast in safe mood with that utility… and reinstalled in normal mode.
i uninstalled other comodo av fully and also removed its folder from c drive. i updated my avast by downloading update file of 32mb and i run it in my pc…can this create any error like avastUI?
I don’t know why you would need to download the update file, if you downloaded the latest 5.1.889 from the avast site (part of step 1) it should have a fairly recent virus definitions that could use the incremental update.
Your signature indicates the free version on the desktop, which presumably isn’t correct ?
If you purchased the AIS version that support 3 systems ?
