AVAST stopped running after system restore. FIX NOW doesn’t work. START PROGRAM doesn’t work. Does anyone know what I should do, (short of undoing the sys restore)?
Any help will be much appreciated. 
Repair avast:
- Control Panel - Add/Remove programs - avast!
- Scroll down and click on ‘Repair’.
- Follow instructions.
Avast asked me to do a minor upgrade to the program, which I did (mutter, mutter).
The next time I started my PC, I got a blue screen (nothing to do with Avast), so I went back to a Restore Ppoint, which unfortunately was a just prior to the Avast minor program update.
Avast is now confused.

I am unsure what you mean by scroll down to choose Repair.
When I click the Change/Remove button (in Add Remove programs), I get this error -
avast! Setup Fatal Error
Error reading product data from "C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast5\setup". Setup cannot continue.
I ran into a similar problem. Were it not for RollBackRx if would have had a bigger mess to deal with.
In the few years I’ve been using avast and trying beta’s and new versions I’ve not seen this many bugs after the release. :o This thing needed at lease several more days of beta or RC.

Also I would download the Avast 7 installer well in safe mode, using the Run command on the windows start menu and typing “msconfig”, selceting the boot tab and then checking the /SAFEMODE and the NETWORK option.
