Avast stopped running (I had SAV Corporate Edition)

Hi there,
first time here on the forums

Thing is, I just installed Avast! 5, and removed Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition. Now, my icon in the lower-right part of the screen has a white cross in a red circle, and when I try to “Start program” or “FIX NOW”, Avast! freezes up for a few seconds, then unfreezes. Nothing happens! I uninstalled SAV, restarted my computer, but it doesn’t work. I’m using Windows XP SP3, if that’s any help.

A few days ago I got my computer back from the repair shop because of an “Antivirus XP Pro” (yeah right like I’m buying that). I have had experiences in the past, and have removed some viruses manually, one of them being Brontok  (yeah it’s a worm)

So, if anyone could help me with my problem, I would appreciate it. If I need to provide more info just let me know and I’ll do everything I can.

Some Symantec products (Norton AntiVirus in particular) are a right royal pain in the rear to remove, so I don’t know if this is also the case with SAV Corporate Edition.

When there are remnants of the previous AV left it can cause issues with your new AV and there are very many such topics in the forums.

Whilst there are a whole slew of Norton removal tools I don’t know id there is one specifically targeted at SAV, try these sites:

Nope, it won’t work :frowning:
Any other ideas?

Well the order that you went about installing 5.0 certainly doesn’t help, by leaving SAV on your system when you installed avast 5.0 could well have forced avast to disable elements of itself to avoid conflict.

Ideally you should have downloaded the full off-line installation file saved to your hard disk, uninstalled SAV, rebooted and then installed 5.0.

So I would suggest a clean reinstall of avast5:
Download the latest version of avast, 5.0.462 (see ~~~~ below) and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again (if you didn’t save your last download). Use that when you reinstall.
Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, find it here ensure you get the version5 one (it has uninstall tools for both 4.8 and 5.0), aswClear5.exe and save it to your HDD.

    1. Now uninstall (using add remove programs, if you can’t do that start from the next step), reboot.- 2. run the avast! Uninstall Utility from safe mode, first for 4.8 if previously installed and then for 5.0, once complete reboot into normal mode.- 3. install the latest version, reboot.
You didn't say what version of avast you installed - Here are some links to English versions of avast 5.0, I'm not sure if there is a Localized language version for your country.

This is the avast 5.0 free antivirus version:
AV: http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/setup_av_free.exe

These options are paid options so you would have to purchase a license if you didn't already have one:
Pro AV: http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/setup_av_pro.exe
Avast Internet Security: http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/setup_ais.exe

Thanks, I’ll try that
And I don’t need a language file, English is okay

No problem, glad I could help.
