Avast stopped scanning single file

Avast has always been able to scan a file I download by simply right-click. I have not updated anything but defs yet suddenly Avast no longer will do so. I have to put a file in a folder and use Settings to scan the folder. Running ver. 17.4.2294 (free version).

Anyone has any ideas I’m all ears.

Ordinarily it would be suggested update to the latest version or do an Avast Repair, that however is likely to also update the program.

Are you getting any errors when doing this ?

Is there any specific reason why you haven’t updated ?
