I got the popup on my desktop saying Avast needs to restart computer. I did so. From that point on the Avast icon in the system tray gives a RED X and tells me my PC is unprotected. Tried restarting twice. Same deal. When I try to open the Avast UI I get a window that says “loading… this shouldn’t take long” and EXIT button. So I called my Dell service tech and he did a complete uninstall and reinstall of Avast, using the avastclean.exe. It did the same thing. Red X in the system tray showing Avast is not protecting my PC. So I completely uninstalled AVAST a second time and have not reinstalled. Seems to be a bug in the update to Avast.
I have been using Avast Free Antivirus for over 15 years and it has served me well. I would like to continue using it if this bug gets fixed. Now I am just using Windows 10 security to protect my computer.
Please advise if this is a reported bug and if it is to be fixed, or if there is something I need to do. Spent close to an hour on the phone with Dell tech and we are unable to get Avast running again.
