Hello,
Avast was working fine earlier today, but now it’s got the red circle in the bottom of the system tray icon. When I mouse over it, Im told that none of the providers are running.
When I double click on the icon, Im shown a message box telling me
Avast: The AAVM subsystem detected a RPC error.
The operation could not be completed.
And an ok button to click.
Can someone tell me what’s happened here? It was working fine this morning, and now this evening it’s borked.
Okay, I went into windows security section and clicked on the malware tab, and it told me that Avast was reporting that it was NOT running.
I clicked the button to make avast run, and up popped a window asking me if Im sure I wanted to trust this program to run since it didn’t come with windows and I chose yes, and now Avast is up and running again.
However, that still leaves me with the question on how this got turned off in the first place? I didn’t turn it off, and Im the only user on this computer.
Computers do the funniest and unexplained things, I would probably ate that point rebooted as this often resolved hiccups like this.
If you have XP, vista32bit or Win2k, I would suggest as a precaution you enable a boot time scan. Right click the avast icon, select Start avast! Antivirus, a memory scan will take place followed by the opening of the Simple User Interface, Menu, ‘Schedule boot-time scan…’ Or see http://www.digitalred.com/avast-boot-time.php.
