So today when I booted up my computer, it tells me my trial version of the program has expired - I’m a 4+ year user with 5 license’s that don’t come up for renewal till June! I’ve tried rebooting, reinstalling my license by both code and file , and repairing my install, but the computer keeps telling me the file is corrupted. Did a virus get by them? Anyone else having this issue?
If I hadn’t already tried that, as I wrote in the post above, I wouldn’t have posted here.
I tried installing the license code - it said it couldn’t validate it at this time, and then I tried a license file sent to me by support - it said that file was corrupted.
It has been updated to the latest - Avast Premiere 2016 11.1.2253
OS…? (32/64 Bit…? - which SP/Build…?)
Windows 7 64 bit SP1
Other security related software installed…?
No other security software installed except what came with Windows and that’s not active when Avast is running.
The computer is currently turned off while I am away from it because it essentially is unprotected and I can’t currently remote into it (from work). I asked because it behaves as if it has been infected and even when I tried to repair the Avast install, it hung up at the ‘installing definitions’ page from about midnight till this morning at 6 - I do believe that is not what is supposed to happen - so I turned it off. My next planned action is to disconnect from the internet, turn on the computer, uninstall Avast completely and try and reinstall from a file I downloaded from the site from another computer. Unless you can suggest another course of action, I will report what the results of that plan are here.
OK - I downloaded the newest version onto a flash drive and used it to reinstall Avast after a complete uninstall. I tried to enter my license file during the install and it again said the file was corrupted (it was one that Support had emailed me - I hope it was right!) but I cancelled out of that, went into the program proper and was able to update my license to the program.
It’s working for now - ran a diagnostic last night and found nothing. Still running now and I’m keeping my fingers crossed it will continue.
Also of note; I got a message about an odd hard drive error that occurred on Tuesday. It’s recovered the affected sectors and says that the drive now passes inspection so until I can repeat this problem, I’m going to assume that had something to do with this. And I guess I ought to start looking out for a new hard drive.
