When I open up my browser I get the message cannot access the Internet. If I switch off the shields access is restored. I have uninstalled the product and re-installed it, to no avail. My usual browser is opera but I have also tried IE and Chrome.
Any help would be gratefully received.

Do you have a firewall … if so what?
Did you just install avast?
Do you have any other security programs installed?
I have just updated avast on my computer and I have run into the exact same problem.
Avast web shield blocks my internet access, and it also takes 100% of my cpu. When I deactivate it everything comes back to normal.
I would be glad if this problem could be fixed.
To answer your question, I don’t have a firewall.
I have updated avast on a PC I haven’t used for 2 years, so it was a pretty good update, I also updated windows 7. I did a startup scan that found about 30 viruses and I ran CCleaner.
I don’t have any other security programs installed apart from windows malware finder which apparently found a malware.
I have windows firewall running at the moment. As soon as the avast shields are up then it plays up. When I use Opera it lets me come on this forum and facebook but nothing else.
Now the shields don’t allow me to come on here but do let me go on facebook and twitter. Nothing else though.
Try avast repair
Ad/remove programs > avast > uninstall/change > repair option…
Did that change anything?
I have tried the repair option and uninstall and reinstall but hasn’t fixed it. Lets me access face book and twitter only.
Ok, I will state the obvious just in case… Did you completely uninstall any previous antivirus program - using their removal software in available?
