After upgrading to the latest version of Avast I found that I could not connect to the internet. I tried two browsers (FF and IE) and each would load but present a blank page until the server timeout message appeared.
I tried reinstalling Avast and also both browsers but no luck.
I then disabled Avast and was able to connect.
I then uninstalled Avast and have now reverted to version 4.8 of Avast and am able to connect with it.
I am running Comodo Firewall and wonder if the latest version of Avast is incompatible or if there is some other bug. Anyone else having this problem or can suggest a solution to enable a newer version of Avast to run?
I suggest
A. Uninstall Comodo Firewall. Boot.
B. Do an avast installation from scratch:
- Download the latest version of avast! Uninstall Utility and save it.
- Download the latest avast! version and save it.
- Uninstall avast from Control Panel (if possible). If, for any reason, you can’t run it, try booting in Safe Mode and doing it from there. Anyway, boot after that.
- Run the avast! Uninstall Utility saved on 1. If, for any reason, you can’t run it, try booting in Safe Mode and doing it from there. Anyway, boot after you’ve run it.
- Install avast! using the setup saved on 2. Boot.
- Register your free copy or add the license key for Pro.
- Check and post the results. If, for any reason, you did not solve, try doing the step 3 in Safe Mode anyway.
C. Install Comodo Firewall. Boot.
Thanks for that suggestion Tech.
Have to leave pc now, but will follow those instructions tomorrow and post result.
Thanks.
Just just followed those instructions.
Result was that I was able to access websites up until the point where I reinstalled the Comodo firewall.
So I re-uninstalled Comodo, booted and was again able to access.
I then activated the Windows XP firewall, booted and was still able to access websites.
So looks like the latest version of Avast and Comodo don’t play together. They do seem compatible however when using earlier versions (4+) of Avast.
I don’t really want to leave Avast, so maybe I’m stuck with the Windows firewall but it would be good if this problem between the two could be sorted.
Also, there seems to be a problem with registering Avast. I click on register and it ‘retrieves information’ however the 30 day limit remains (even after reboot)
Hope the teams work together on it… There are some problems in Comodo forums with avast users.
Is your system time and date correct?
Yes, time and date are correct.
Bit of an update that may be of help to others.
The online ‘Registration’ function doesn’t work, but I tried using the ‘offline’ function, filled out a form and the registration number was emailed to me.
Re’ the Comodo compatibility problem - tried various suggestions from the Comodo forum but no luck. Have now switched to PCTools Firewall Plus and that is working fine with Avast. ![]()
